Our first day on the challenge was a great success. It got off to a rocky start as we struggled to find a guest arriving at a suitable time at the airport to surprise with a welcome. In theory our master plan was seamless...emailing all guests due to check-in that day with the promise of a free airport shuttle if they replied with their arrival times. Unfortunately those that did were arriving at 5am so it was necessary for plan B!!
PLAN B:
In the spirit of the original flashmob by the improve crew; we decided that we would go to the arrivals area and ask those waiting who they were waiting for. Balloons and party hats were a plenty and good humour all round. We practiced our singing and dancing routine (as we're all professional flashmobbers now! ha!).
We found two families waiting for 4 German Exchange Students....BINGO!
We waited with baited breadth until finally we got the signal. We surged forward, an unstoppable force of joy and jubilation, jumping, singing, blowing horns. The girls were naturally shocked and looked terrified at first. It wasn't until they saw their names on our welcome banner that the penny dropped but even then they were a little a-daze! Much to our amusement they arrived in two pairs and so we had the opportunity to recreate our flashmob welcome just a few minutes after for the second time!
The adrenalin was racing through us all...what a buzz...we thought as we got back on Over The Top Tour's trusty bus service! We got back to Kinlay and were warmly welcomed. We enjoyed some free beverages of the tasty sort.
Next Darkey Kelly's, an adjoining pub treated us to a dinner fit for queens in exchange for a 30 minute set!
Day one in the bag!!
You need to be an adrenalin junkie when you travel with kids.
